Tom is joined by Pete, based in Geneva and Bryan, who is based just outside Belfast in Northern Ireland. In the first episode they introduce themselves, discuss the recently announced Tour de France route and have a detailed look at the (MAMILS favourite) 2018 Etape du Tour route. They also discuss how to maintain cycling motivation in the “off-season” as the sunlight fades and nights draw in for Northern Hemisphere MAMILS.

Pete during the 2015 Haute Route Alps.

Pete is a husband, father, over-worked executive, mad-keen cyclist and Mt Ventoux veteran. Having resisted the MAMIL label for a few years he has finally accepted his new status and is a welcome member of the podcast team. Pete is about to start training for his 5th Etape du Tour and has completed the Haute Route Alps, La Marmotte and the Maratona dles Dolomites in Italy. He has also discovered a new passion for mountain biking and is aiming to master descending over the winter having had to abandon the classic alpine race “Roc des Alpes” earlier this year as it was “too steep”.

Bryan has raced at Category 1 level in Ireland competing in all the big races including the An Post Ras. He coaches cyclists now globally via his online cycling website www.cyclecoachinguk.com Having had some time off the bike due to injury Bryan is now enjoying getting back into cycling without the pressure of competition. Previously Bryan was Head Technician at Chain Reaction Cycles and owned his own bike shop for a while. Although he never felt any pressure to take up cycling Bryan’s Father was National Road Race Champion for a period so it was probably inevitable he’d end up in Lycra!
